Stour Marine hotspots
When you're in or near (up to 70-100 metres away) a Stour Marine hotspot with your wireless-enabled laptop or PDA:
- Open your internet browser
- You will be directed to a login screen. If
you have a login already then enter the username and password. (If you do
not have a login then click the 'Buy' button to purchase access time.)
- Once logged in you have full internet access.
- when you've finished, don't forget to log off or sign out before closing your internet browser*
(* If you don't log off, but
just simply close your browser, your account will stay open for a few minutes
before closing due to inactivity - this may incur extra charges for these
minutes.)
Important: if you're using
Windows XP (SP2) and view wireless connection status, you'll see Stour Marine
described as an 'Unsecured wireless network' or similar. Windows XP (SP2)
describes most public access wireless networks in this way. Stour Marine
uses sophisticated 128-bit public key encryption during log-in to protect
transfer of your data. Account traffic is encrypted and your account is password
protected.

Stour Marine provides fast wireless access to
the internet. To send email you need to connect with your ISP's outgoing mail server.
Some ISPs don't allow users to connect directly
to their outgoing mail servers from the internet because of security and
spamming (junk email) concerns. It is possible you may have difficulty sending
mail this way. Try it as see how you get on with your ISP.

remember that a recipient's email account may limit the amount of data accepted.
We suggest that you limit emails and attachments to 10MB.

Once you're connected to the internet using
Stour Marine, you'll be able to access any of the sites you'd normally be able
to visit. You won't need any special settings, but, upon signing in to your
banking account, remember to look for the padlock icon on your browser
and click on it to confirm that the security certificate is valid.

Wireless networks are no greater health hazard
than mobile phones. Wireless networks cover much shorter distances than mobile
phones and so operate at much lower power levels.

You can make phone calls using your PC with this
new service. The technology is known as VoIP. Be aware the quality may not be
very good.
Once you've successfully logged into Stour
Marine, you'll need to follow your company's procedures to access your Virtual
Private Network (VPN) - the same process you would normally use to access your
corporate network remotely. This may include supplying unique information from a
SecurID token. You should check before you go to a hotspot that no additional
steps are required for you to use Stour Marine.
